On 10th December 2013, the Carmelite Order worldwide – both individuals and communities – will engage in a day of prayer, reflection and action to mark World Human Rights Day. This year’s theme is “Carmelite Perspectives on Human Rights”.
To facilitate prayer and share information on the theme, the Carmelite NGO produces a booklet; to download a copy (in PDF format) please click here.
Regarding ourselves as the spiritual descendents of the prophet Elijah, and inspired by the Good News of Jesus Christ, Carmelites are committed to promoting justice, working and praying for peace, and upholding the integrity of God’s Creation. The prophetic Carmelite vocation is supported by the work of the Order’s NGO (Non-Governmental Organisation department) at the United Nations. The Carmelite NGO organises two Days of Prayer each year – on 5th June (World Environment Day) and 10th December (World Human Rights Day) – to inform Carmelite religious and laity, and inspire them to prayer and action on issues of global significance.
Resources for the Days of Prayer are also available on the website of the Carmelite NGO; please click here to access the site.
