Cappella Sanctae Catharinae (CSC) is Malta’s only all-male choir, set up in 2009 by a small group of male singers sharing a common passion for renaissance and baroque polyphonic music. The original motive for setting up the choir was as a performance project in connection with the restoration of the Church of St. Catherine attached to the Auberge d’Italie in Valletta – which was underway at the time. The restoration of the church having been completed, a decision to carry on with the work of the choir was taken, and CSC has gradually grown into a 14-member group that regularly performs in venues across Malta. The choir remains unique not only for being the only all-male choir in Malta, but also for presenting early polyphonic music in its original setting. Over the years, CSC has performed in the 2013 edition of the Valletta International Baroque Festival, and also together with Dame Emma Kirkby, OBE. CSC has also established itself on the cultural scene by organising early music masterclasses with musicologist Sabine Cassola. The choir also seeks to involve itself in a number of fundraising events for both cultural and philanthropic causes, and in so doing bringing music closer to the community, while promoting excellence in music. Cappella Sanctae Catharinae is a registered Voluntary Organisation VO/901
